My Wonderful Husband

I want to brag just a little on my husband. I think he is wonderful!

A few days ago, we found out one of his brothers has MRSA, which is a very contagious staff infection. The big deal about MRSA is once you get it, you are more likely to get it again. Well, last summer, I had 4 bouts of MRSA. It is awful! It doesn't make you naseuas (thankfully) or give you a headache or anything. It just forms a little pimple, that quickly turns into what looks like a gross spider bite, to a horrible abscess. It looks kind of like a boil. And it is extremely painful. The smallest one I had was the size of a nerf football. If you are not sure that you have it, and you let it go too long, the only thing to do is lance it. That is excruciating!!! Since it is a raised abscess, you can't numb it and to make sure it stays open and drains properly, they pack the inside of the cut with gauze. I am telling you, it is horrible. The doctor told me last year that he had no doubt that I could go through child-birth with no meds after that. That made me feel good.

Besides the pain, it is oh so difficult to keep it contained. I had to do laundry every day. Blankets, sheets, towels, clothes. I did our bedspread and pillows every other day. And everything has to be washed in bleach. Twice a day I sprayed disinfectant on everything in our house, literally. I even sprayed the seats in the car, the steering wheel and our keys.

Oh, and you have to shower with a special prescription soap twice a day. You have to put some antibiotic stuff in your nose, I call it nose goo. And take oral antibiotics. And not normal antibiotics, pretty harsh ones. Last year, the last time I had MRSA, I also had an allergic reaction to the prescription, 2 days before I was through. So I had to start a whole other round...and we all know what too many antibiotics will do to a girl.

I am so grateful that we have not gotten it again. Once a month, I still do the whole routine, just in case.

Back to the whole point of this blog... The other day, Stony found out his brother had MRSA. He immediately called me and told me what was going on. His brother had stayed at our house just 2 days before that. So as I was on my way home from work, Stony called me and reminded me of all the things I needed to do to keep from getting it. And he wanted me to do it all first thing when I walked in the door. He felt bad that he couldn't be here to help me. And even worse that I had to worry about it at all. He also told his brother that he could not come to our house for at least 2 weeks because he didn't want me to be exposed to it and possibly get it again. I know telling his brother he couldn't come over was a hard thing to do because he usually comes and stays the night once or twice a week. Isn't he a sweet, thoughtful husband? I was grateful!
