Happy or Holy
Church tonight was awesome! We are in a series right now called Myth Buster. Tonight was the myth that "God wants me happy." The pastor set it up so well. He started by defining the differences between happiness and being joyful. Happiness is often based on our circumstances and it is emotional. Being joyful is based on our faith and it is more of a state of the heart. He talked about how God's purpose for us here is not that we are happy. It is that we are holy. He said that if we strive for holiness (to be like Jesus), we will indeed become more like Jesus, and in turn will be joyful, which will make us happy. If we strive for happiness, we will miss all three. I know this little blurb doesn't do the sermon justice...at all! But it really was a fantastic sermon!
