Harvest

In October we took a quick weekend trip out to Nebraska to see what Farmer Dad does when he goes out to help our friends with harvest. He loves to show off all his knowledge and jobs. =) It was a fun quick trip.

Dad teaching Stony

Combine.
Only the farmers get to drive this--its worth almost $400,000.
It is an amazing machine.
The combine emptying corn into the wagon.

Emptying the corn from the wagon to the truck. (the truck is what my dad drives)

Husks, cobs and stalks is what the combine leaves behind.
It drives through the field and picks everything up, cuts it, sorts it,
the corn kernels go in the wagon, everything else gets spit out the back.
The whole process is just amazing!

A REALLY old house.
Sue's great grandparents (I think) homesteaded in Nebraska and this is
their house.  (all the windows are covered with seet metal and painted).
People are working to restore the house and the grounds.
She had some cool stories about her grandparents and their life.
Her grandmother was a nurse.  They lived
here when the government marched the Indians out of Nebraska and they marched them
right along this property.  One of the cheifs brought her grandmother a filly (which is an amazing
thing in itself) as a thank you for taking care of them and always being so nice to
them even when other people weren't.
