Good People

There are still good people in this world.

Stony and I went to Lowe's on Monday.  We had Cory's Jimmy instead of our truck (long story) so when we were loading the wood into the back end, I set my billfold on the bumper.  I remember thinking, "don't put that there."  And then I argued with myself, "I won't forget it!  We are only loading a few things."  Well, I forgot it.  And we drove off.  Thankfully, it fell off almost immediately and stayed in the parking lot at Lowe's.

I didn't realize it when we left or when we got home.  I actually did not realize I had lost it until my mother-in-law asked me to look at a receipt.  I looked all over the house and the car for my billfold.  Then all of a sudden, as I was walking past the bumper, I remembered what I had done.  And then I freaked!  In there I had our credit card, 2 of my parent's credit cards, the church's credit card and walmart card...and I immediately started thinking of all the people and companies I was going to spend the next 3 days calling.

So I called Lowe's and the girl at the desk told me that someone had found it (I breathed a sigh of relief) but that he would not leave it with them (I kinda sucked it back in).  So she gave me his number and I called him.  His name is John.  When I called him this is what he said, "I didn't want to leave your billfold there because I don't know those people.  I don't know who would be able to get a hold of your information or how secure the place they keep lost things like that is.  I don't know their employees or any of that.  So I have it with me.  I am going to pick up my daughters and then I was planning on bringing it by your house.  Will you be home?"  He told me he would bring his girls and that he drove a 1954 Ford something.  He seemed like a nice enough guy, but my husband has taught me to be suspicious of everyone.  So I wanted to be hopeful and grateful, but I couldn't help but wondering if he was going to try to kidnap me or something.  This sounds weird, but the fact that he drove a 1954 Ford made me feel better.  It was also a relief that Stony would be home.  When I told Stony what John said, Stony was very grateful and said, "Well generally it is the good-ol-boy type that goes to stores like Lowe's, not little hooligans.  That is awesome, Brit."

So John came to our house.  He stayed in the car and his daughter brought my billfold to the door.  She was standing there holding it up so that I knew she wasn't just some neighbor girl knocking on my door.  We are both SO grateful that there are good people like John around.

  1. LOL - I'm happy for your blessing but I find it so amusing that you call your wallet a "billfold". That's such a "old person" word!! :) You're wonderful and I love you!
