Dad's Birthday

Obviously the catching up thing didn't happen. =)  I did get laundry done.  And for the first time during May, I opened all my mail.  I think I'm about ready to give up on the "catchin up" idea and just do now what I can do and stay as current as possible.  That goes for blogs, mail, communication, work...all kinds of stuff.

Last weekend was Dad's 60th birthday.  Stony and I stayed the night at my parents' house on Sunday.  Steph came up with the girls on Monday and we spent the first part of the day just enjoying each other and relaxing on the lawn.

Then in the afternoon, our birthday present to Dad was time--time to help him clean out the garage.  He was so thrilled.  Stony ended up working the longest.  He had dad cleaned out a significant section and we ended up taking home a truck load (I'm not exaggerating) of stuff--a bed (that was planned), wood and carpet for the garden, tires for tire swings, hooks for plants in the yard, a small fridge, drawers for garden boxes...I don't know what else they stuffed in there.  Dad and Stony were both like little kids.

Then we grilled steaks and had the neighbors over for dinner.  While we were in the basement, Dad grabbed a bottle of wine and told me I needed to take it home.  It is a bottle that my Grandpa Duane bought when I was born.  His intent was that I open it when I turned 21 or when I got married.  We missed both of those...and our 1st anniversary and multiple other special occasions when I could have opened it.  So I decided that Dad's birthday was a special occasion.  He kept trying to argue, but in the end felt very honored that I would open this bottle of wine for his birthday (even though he doesn't drink).  It was unbelievable!  It was the most amazing wine I have ever tasted!

The night ended with laughing and full bellies and great company.  Happy Birthday, Dad!
