I was pumping gas today and this kid walked up to me. At first I thought he was going to ask me for money, but he didn't, he just smiled nicely and started telling me about this fire spinning show in Fort Collins. So I thought, "hmmm, just out trying to promote this thing, probably because everyone is headed back to school...that is not for me, but I don't want to be rude so I'll just let him do his spiel and then he will leave." When he was finished I just said, "Thank you," and turned back to the gas pump.
To which he replied, "Are you busy tonight?"
"Yes I am."
"All night?" He leans against my truck and smiles. Oh my gosh, I just realized he is not promoting anything, he is hitting on me.
"Yes." At this point I'm trying not to laugh because I can tell he is just a kid and I don't want to burst his bubble completely because I know it has got to take guts to come up to someone and ask them out.
"Really? All night? What about at like 9 or 10?"
"Yes all night." My gas is done pumping now, I reach for the hose thing and he takes it out and hangs it back up for me and smiles.
"Well, do you have a number; I could call you. Maybe later tonight or some other time?" I start to smirk a little bit...this guy doesn't give up. He is very nice. He is even kinda cute. I really hate to pop his bubble...
"I do have a number, but I'm not going to give it to you; I'm married." His eyes pop open and then dart straight to my left hand.
Stammering a little, "I'm sorry, I should have...I didn't see a ring. I...I...I'm sorry."
After he apologized, we chatted for just a bit. I think we were both trying to be polite. I asked him how old he was...21. (How old/young do I look??)
The whole experience was flattering and weird. I can't type this without laughing.
